Im looking into getting a street bike and i am considering a ninja 250 what are your thoughts?

i have experience on 450f dirtbikes and i am looking for equal to or greater power than a 450. Is the ninja too slow? can i handle a 600 class bike. im 5%26#039;9%26quot; 154lbs|||ninja 250 are good beginner bikes. you will outgrow it before the season ends. an excellent bike is the sv650. i have one. little vtwin that has pretty good torque. fairly cheap. highly recommend framesliders, they will save your fairing and your tank/frame. i know from experience.|||All good advice........... but here%26#039;s something you can do right now to make the advice more relevant to you next time you ask a question..

its called PROFILE INFORMATION.. if you tell us in your profile that you%26#039;ve been riding dirt bikes for 5 years %26amp; have a 450f that you just rebuilt.. we know your ability both as a rider %26amp; repair/ service person for your bike.. then if you add .. as a hobby I like to make electronics kits.. we know you can probably rewire your bike to...

so go put some stuff in.. %26amp; list hobbies as well..

Allowing email is great to.. cos if you forget to put something in a question then we can at least ask....

but to your question.. get a second hand ninja 250.. ride it for 6 months %26amp; you will then have an idea what size bike will suit you..

don%26#039;t make the error of too big a jump.. going straight to a 1000cc from the 250 can be just as bad as starting on the 600cc..|||ur body size has nothing 2 do with it. it is ur experience and agility. its a nice bike tho|||if you feel very comfortable riding the 450f hard, you will be fine on a 600|||Driving and riding experience is more important than your height and weight.

I do believe from personal experience your dirt riding skills will be very helpful when you move to a road bike. BUT that does not mean you have the skills needed to survive on the road. Lots of unsafe, unskilled, unfocused, uncaring drivers on the road these days.

Look for a machine you can really travel on like a V-Twin powered Suzuki DL-650 V-Strom. Good engine, good headlights, upright seating position, and a real windshield.

Good Luck and be careful when you hit the roads, or they will hit you.

PS

David B%26#039;s comment is spot on and I wish I would have thought of it myself.

%26quot;But constant adrenaline rushes dramatically slow down the learning curve.%26quot;

This is a very good comment from I presume a very experienced rider.

I couldn%26#039;t agree more.|||The Ninja 250 is an excellent choice, but you should also consider the Ninja 500 and the Suzuki 500. I am not trying to say that the 250 is not the greatest choice, but if you are used to the power of a 450 single, then I think you should choose the 500. I also recommend taking an MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) approved course, so you can get used to riding on a streetbike, and you can get your endorsement upon completion of the course. In terms of speed, neither of the bikes listed above are not slow in their regards, they are slow compared to the new crop of 600%26#039;s and literbikes. Believe me, they are fast enough.|||I agree with slipknot. The resale value on Ninja 250s is very good. Choosing a street bike that size for starters will also allow you to learn the braking and handling limits of a sport bike before you add crazy-fast acceleration into the mix. A Ninja 250 will also get you 60 or so MPG.

Don%26#039;t get me wrong, all you horsepower fans, I like the 130 horses my bike provides. But constant adrenaline rushes dramatically slow down the learning curve. Start small, then move up.||| I would start with something bigger and I would look beyond the japanese bikes. They are riding on their names and charging a lot for them. |||whether you can or cannot handle the 600 is a diffrent question from %26#039;can i do it safely%26#039;

get the 250, get a used one... get used to it (dirt bikes and ANY street bike are notoriously diffrent in every aspect....)

anyways, get used to the 250 then make the jump, you won%26#039;t actually lose much (if anything) in resell and you can safely make the jump.

besides, if you%26#039;ve only ever ridden dirt bikes, i highly doubt you%26#039;ll be disappointed in any 250 crotch rocket.
